If the store feels crowded already or it’s time to design a floor plan to open a new store, adding more space is always at the top of the list. Yet, it’s not possible to move the walls out a little bit to actually create more space. Instead, it’s going to require being creative and choosing the right displays to increase the amount of space available for walking around the store. If you need more floor space in your store, use the following types of displays.
Vertical Displays
Use the height in the store. Vertical displays make it possible to display more per square foot. With vertical displays, it’s easier to display all of the merchandise without it taking up as much room as it might with half-height shelves, bins, and other types of displays. This is likely the best way to add more room to walk around the store without having to store as many items in the back or pare down on the number of items sold in the store.
Wall-Mounted Displays
How much room is wasted behind the shelves? It might not seem like much, but adding wall-mounted displays can add that little bit of space back into the room. Plus, since the displays are mounted on the walls, it gives the entire store an illusion of having more space. Even though only a little bit is added and the number of items displayed may be the same, it can look like the whole area is a lot more spacious.
Countertop Displays
Smaller items can be contained in countertop displays around the store, and especially at the checkout area. Keep inexpensive and small items near the checkout to encourage more sales. It’s a good idea to be careful to avoid adding too many displays to the counters and having them look cluttered, but this could be a good way to sell items that are more of a last-minute decision when someone is looking around the store.
Mobile Shelving
Mobile displays are easy to move around, so they can be taken outside the store to display items on sale or moved to different areas of the store depending on what needs to be displayed. Shelving sizes can vary, so there are a number of options that can be easily moved around the store as needed to create more room, yet allow for all products to be displayed and ready to sell.
Custom Displays
Sometimes, there just isn’t a display that works perfectly for an item. Instead of taking up excess space because the item doesn’t fit on a standard shelf, consider custom displays. Made to fit the item, they may take up significantly less room and be a far more attractive display.
